FAQ’s

Where are you located?
Thorpe Photography is based in Toronto Canada with availability across Canada as well as globally for destination assignments. If you would like to visit the gallery, which is located in Toronto’s Entertainment District, please feel free to contact me and we I book you in!

How many photos will you take and how many do we receive?

On an average wedding day myself and my team will easily take upwards of 2000 photos of which are carefully edited down. There can be anywhere between 600 and 1000 photos, depending on the duration and pace of the day. These edited photos receive full color balancing, tonal adjustments and minor retouching. I really want to deliver the best quality photos to my clients and truly believe in quality over quantity. You, the client, chooses images for inclusion into albums and for prints. All first round selects are provided in digital format.

Do you shoot film or digital?

With the advancements in digital technology over the past decade, film has been greatly surpassed in terms or resolution, light sensitivity, convenience. I am therefore a purely digital studio utilizing the latest in Digital SLR technology combined with a studio work flow that includes corrections and retouching of each image that is delivered to my clients. It is important to note that I do not deliver pure RAW files, as I do not consider them to be professionally finished photos. See the section on retouching.

What kind of photographic equipment do you use?

We utilize a mix of the latest in digital DLR cameras, lenses, and advanced lighting equipment to ensure your moments are captured in the best light possible. We are currently using the latest professional Nikon bodies (D3s, D3 & D300′s), a mix of Nikon professional lenses (nothing slower than an F2.8 – for the tech heads out there) and lighting equipment that ranges from portable flash guns with modifiers to full on location studio lighting with portable power packs. We are not equipment shy and always have a backup just in case.

Are you available for destination weddings?

Of course! I can provide solo or full coverage for your destination wedding. I typically provide extra coverage for such events (such as a bridal shoot on the beach) as well – I love my job! For more information on destinations, please contact me with details.

Do you edit your photos?

All photos that are presented to you have been edited to some degree. I do not deliver ‘out of camera’ RAW images, as all images from RAW require a degree of processing to make them print ready. I have two levels of processing – all presented images receive color and contrast adjustments, along with minor retouching. Images ordered for print and inclusion in albums are fully hand polished to ensure that they look their best. With a background in digital retouching, you can be assured that any edits will be subtle and effective.

How long will it be until our photos and albums are ready?

Proof images typically take three to four weeks to be uploaded online. This is a rough approximation that is dependent on the time of year, as I often experience seasonal rushes. Due to their custom nature, wedding albums are typically produced within ten weeks of image submissions. Digital files are packaged and delivered with your final wedding album, or upon print ordering completion.

Will Jon be photographing our wedding?

With all of my wedding packages, I will be leading the coverage on your wedding day and will be accompanied by my technical assistant / second photographer. For destination weddings, I tend to work solo unless extra assistance is deemed a requirement.
