Medical / Technology Photo Shoot

This week was a very busy one, as I was working on a fairly major project for a branch within the Government. The assignment called for stylized medical and technology imagery which was to be photographed both in studio and also on location within various labs and clean facilities. The challenge of this shoot was to have everything completed by the end of the week with final images ready for print processing *phew!*

Thanks to some last minute planning, ordering of lab supplies and accommodating lab staff, we were able to complete the shoot without a hitch over a three day period. Our project manager was happy to have the digital copies in hand the next day!

Shooting with Statik Mountain Co.

Adventure clothing designer and manufacturer, Statik Mountain Co. contracted me to work on an advertising campaign for their new line of climbing shorts which were to be hitting the shelves. Because of magazine submission deadlines, we had to develop simple but stand-out imagery that would be ready for print within the week. We set out to create some powerful imagery with a weightless theme by utilizing post-production techniques, we didn’t even have to be in the studio. All work was done on location and then pieced together after to create the seamless imagery.

The shot of Matt pushing off the wall was actually created by having an assistant hold up his ankle/leg while he preformed a one armed handstand on the photo backdrop which was laid on the floor. Climbers are strong folk!

Labatt Blue Photoshoot and Retouching

The following series of photos were produced and finished for one of Labatt Blue’s online advertising campaigns. They wanted stylized as well as natural looking photos for use on the various pages of the website – and they were to be viewed full screen. The bar shot is actually composite of around 10 different photos that were combined to create the stylish and modern image (the bar was NOT very modern).

North of 49 Magazine Shoot

These are a few photos that ran full spread in North of 49 Magazine as part of an interior shoot for an upscale condo located on the shores of Lake Simcoe. You just can’t beat the view that this place has!
We stuck around for almost the entire day, waiting for the light to shift from room to room so that we could capture each space with the ideal natural lighting.

Green Party – Green Imagery

I have always had a fairly close relationship with the Green Party of Canada as well as the Ontario Green’s. These photos were comissioned for use in print material outlining their environmental stratgey.

All three of this images are actually composites of various photos. By combining the various elements (sky, ground and focal images) I am able to create imagery that looks clean and highly stylized.

Storage Now – Facility Photography

When shooting any sort of architecture there are always unique sets of challenges that must be surpassed in order to get the best possible results. Shooting a big box storage center was no exception. The direction of the sun, cloud cover, time of day and atmospheric conditions (that thing called rain!) can all have an impact. When i first arrived on site, the lighting conditions and cloud cover were not optimal, so I moved inside to capture other aspects of the facility. By the time I was finished up with the interior photographs, the sun had lowered to a more pleasing angle and some light cloud had rolled in, making for a more impacting image.

Security Photoshoot

This week was a pretty fun one as I had the opportunity to shoot with a security firm at one of Canadas busiest airports. Our goal was to capture natural looking photos that included members of the security team in real world situations. The half day shoot tour included shots taken under natural lighting inside the terminal, in secure areas as well as out on the tarmac (called the apron).

Believe it or not, our biggest hurdle of the day was actually getting through all of the security clearances in order obtain the permits to shoot on location! It says a lot for how tight things are these days at international airports and I can’t appreciate the hard work enough!
